individual reviews below
paper - seems like actual watercolour paper, probably cellulose. downfall - feels like it has no sizing or lost its sizing.
amount of paint - decent. i was able to get 2-3 swatches for the dot given, with the exception of some of the harder to rewet, low tinting colours like cobalt violet, PG17, etc.
overall i'd personally rate this dot card a 9/10. 1) wish they were a bit more generous with their paint 2) wish the paper had better sizing but all in all, i gave it a high score because it was rather cheap at 250 THB.
Scroll below past the swatches to see my list of observations for each colour. Check out my youtube channel "Paint in Hiding" for a video format of the swatching.
[The following were scanned using my HP scanner. I'll try to remember to come back here and make a list of which colours are correctly represented by the the scans and which are not. For the most part, it's a good representation. ]
i used a synthetic brush size 8, dipped in clean water and slide it onto side of water cup to wring out excess water. then use the moist brush to brush the dots.
in general, all the colours were very easy to rewet, vibrant, and pigmented. with a few exceptions that i’ll put asterisks next to. (like this ***)
note about the paper the dot chart is on: it feels like decent watercolour paper however… i don’t know if it has sizing. mine seems to have either lost its sizing or never had sizing to begin with. that’s why you can see me trying to get more clean water to get the paint to have a more diluted wash in the first several swatches, which didn’t turn out well. so later on i started just doing the swatches with one continuous stroke. for those of you who have experience with unsized paper, i’m sure you can see my struggle and see how i adapted later.
the following is from left to right, top to bottom. i have a video of the swatching on my youtube channel for reference.
page 1
1 looks like a PV19 beta quin violet, like van gogh’s perm red violet (off of memory, not side by side comparison)
2 felt like vangogh’s PR176 carmine in the initial brushing
3 quin red - nice quin rose colour. comes out pigmented red, and washes out to a nice pink. more blue (cool) than perm rose. basically leaning more towards magenta.
4 perm rose - typical PV19 gamma, typical quin rose colour. very pigmented red and washes to a nice pink. this one is ‘redder’ than the previous PWC quin red. if you look carefully, the paint dot is also a more apparent red colour whereas the quin red dot is a deeper dark colour. personally for me, i’m looking for a cool red for my palette and both this one and quin red are okay with me. however, i decided to go with perm rose because when squeezed onto the palette, i like being able to see the paint colour if possible, instead of being all dark and black (like when you have many blues next to each other in your palette. it’s just so confusing for me. also, i like having a PR122 in my palette and so i’d much rather have a warmer ‘cool red’ in my palette as i already have the PR122 that is very magenta. i suggest for people who want a single ‘cool red’ in their palette, go for the PWC quin red. however, if you have a magenta in your palette, then go for the perm rose.)
5 very deep carmine. i don’t know what perylenes look like but this seems to look like a perylene maroon in my opinion.
6 dark deep red, it dries like a brown.
7 beautiful, feels like it leans towards orange, not like a middle red. leans slightly orange.
8 PR209, looks like a very middle red, like a fire engine red, not pink at all.
9 feels very brown but also red, brown leaning towards red
-- i start pointing at several dots. those are the ones that i can see cracks on. maybe that can give us an indication of which ones are more prone to cracking when we dry our half pans. -- once the painted swatches dry completely, then they show their colours and that’s very useful.
10 this also feels like a fire engine red but sort of warm. leaning towards orange.
11*** opera - hard to rewet
12 very opaque initially, but dries semi-opaque, feels like a very dark orange-red
13 this is a clear orange, an orange leaning towards red.
14 feels like the prior one but a lighter orange, as in, it’s less red than the prior one.
15 opaque, middle orange
16 lighter than the previous.
17 slightly harder to rewet but it’s ok. orange-yellow territory now.
18 feels like holbein PY110, a nice warm yellow.
19 slightly opaque, leans slightly orange. feels like a warmer yellow than the next one.
20 less orange than the previous one, almost like a middle yellow
21 middle yellow
22 almost like a lemon yellow, feels like it’s between a mid yellow and a lemon yellow
23*** slightly harder to rewet. gamboge-y colour. i’m personally not a fan of this type of paint where it’s gummy/streaky. immediately reminds me of rembrandt’s gamboge and sennelier’s indian yellow. don’t get me wrong, i’m fine with the colour. the texture is what i’m not fond of.
24 feels like an orange yellow, like van gogh’s PY83
25 feels like a mid yellow
26 very light. because of lightness, feels like a lemon yellow but a warmer version.
27 slightly hard to rewet
28*** hard to rewet, low tinting strength
29 feels like an olive green, i personally hardly see any yellow in that. a little bit in the watered down wash but it doesn’t wash to a bright yellow.

43 viridian - very slightly less tinting strength than viridian hue and a bit lighter than viridian hue
44 viridian hue - good solid phthalo green
45*** low tinting,
46 high tinting strength
47 looks similar to a PB16 but more green
48 very easy to rewet
49 duller than PG50,PB28 cobalt teals. also more blue than standard cobalt teals. if you want that vibrancy, just go for the real deal. this can’t replace that because it’s not as bright.
50 like the previous one but darker and more blue.
51 feels like old version of rembrandt’s cerulean blue phthalo, a slightly dull ‘light’ blue colour
52 looks exactly like holbein PB16
53 warmer than previous colour
54*** low tinting
page 2

6 slightly hard to rewet, not too bad ,granulates
7 granulates, stronger tinting than previous, warmer than prevoius
8 typical prussian blue
9 feels like a PB60 iindanthrene blue
10 extremely pigmented/strong tinting indigo
11 beautiful lavender
12 medium rewet, not too difficult, medium tinting, nice granulation.
13 looks like standard dioxazine violet
14 mauve-y type of colour
15*** extremely hard to rewet, very low tinting, granulates. - though this is all typical for PV14
16 typical pv19 beta but looks darker than vangogh perm red violet
17 redder than i expected.
18 red brown, semi opaque
19
20 rewets very well for a b.sienna, more towards orange than i personally like. medium tinting. i like this more than sennelier’s version.
21 b.umber, very nice, a bit too cool for my personal taste
22 medium rewet,
23 very nice raw sienna, i prefer this over a yellow ochre
24 typical yellow ochre
25 medium rewet, slightly low tinting.
umber, raw umber, burnt umber….. b.umber is like the typical standard b.umber, umber alone looks like the green umber i know from rembrandt, raw umber looks like an orange version of yellow ochre.
26
27 vandyke brown2 feels more red than the previous.
28
29
30 is leaning towards a cool neutral black
31 this feels more neutral than previous
